60-foot motor yacht hull tooling

Project · Marine tooling

A full-size hull tooling plug in marine-grade tooling board.

A European yacht builder needed a large-format female mold tooling plug for a 60-foot motor yacht hull. The part spans the full length and beam of the hull in a single CNC operation, then receives a series of finishing passes and a final surface seal.

Scope

  • 5-axis gantry CNC roughing 5 passes, 22 hours total
  • Hand finishing pass 3 weeks by senior technician
  • Surface seal & primer Polyester sealer, sanded 600 grit
  • Dimensional QA Per 50cm grid, ±0.5 mm tolerance

5-Axis CNC Machining

Large-format gantry with 5-axis head — single-setup machining across the full hull envelope.

About this service

The process.

Our engineers worked with the client's naval architect to validate the master model. The tooling plug was machined in five roughing passes across 22 hours of spindle time, then finished by hand to achieve the required surface quality. Final dimensional check confirmed the part was within ±0.5 mm across the entire hull envelope.

The tooling plug was delivered on schedule and matched our naval architect's surface within tolerance across the entire hull. Brzoglas is now our default tooling partner for hulls over 50 feet.
